October 10, 2012, in honor of the United Nation’s International Day of the Girl Child over 150 Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors from the Girl Scout Council of the Nation’s Capital spent the day at the State Department, learning about the important work of this government agency,  meeting with staff and working on Girl Scout National Proficiency badges, the citizen series.

In preparation for the meeting, girls wrote questions and sent messages to the Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.  Read our book, which contains these messages.

“I wish girls around the world had as many educational opportunities and rights as girls and women in the United States.” ~Helena O/Chevy Chase, MD

“I think this is such a great time in history to be a girl. There are no limits placed on what we can accomplish.” ~Kora C/Annandale, VA

“I am very honored to be here. Thank you for inviting us.”~ Madison C/Great Falls, VA

“Because I admire all that you (Secretary of State Hillary R. Clinton) have accomplished, I am thinking of going into public service.” ~Monique P/Fairfax, VA
