The Girl Scout family remembers Fran Phoenix, a lifetime Girl Scout member and chair of Association 80. Fran was a consummate volunteer, serving a number of roles to help bring the best Girl Scout experience to girls in Prince William County.
During her youth, Fran was a Girl Guide in Montreal, Canada. She encouraged her own daughter to be actively involved in Girl Scouting and served as a troop leader for over 20 years. She was a Member-at-Large on the Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital Board of Directors, and frequently served as a delegate at Girl Scout National Council Sessions. She was also the Director of Ports of Prince William Day Camp and supported the Girl Scout Cookie program as a cookie depot manager.
As a member of the Girl Scout Gold Award panel, Fran had a particular interest in recognizing the accomplishments of Girl Scout Seniors and Ambassadors. Fran’s fellow volunteers credit the retention of teenage Girl Scouts in her area to her dedicated service.
In addition to her work with Girl Scouts, she supported her son’s Boy Scout troop as den mother, served as a PTSO Board Teacher representative and chair of the math department at Graham Park Middle School, where she was a teacher.
Fran was recognized by Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital in 2007 with the Thanks II Badge.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Fran’s memory to Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital.
